Just try one more time. Think about that for a minute. Was there a time when you tried just once more and it worked? I’ve done that—it took 23 years, but I did it!
You see, when I was 12, I was just about to get my first pair of pointe shoes, but my teacher quit. I changed schools, had a bad experience, and I quit dancing because I thought I wasn’t good enough. I held onto that lie for 23 years.
But at 35, when professional dancers retire, I got my first pair of pointe shoes. I couldn’t stand up in them, but there I was, in ballet class with these 10-year-olds dancing circles around me. I was determined though, and...
One year later, I performed en pointe with that ballet company, and then...
Six months after that, I got a national commercial as a ballerina, wore my first pair of pointe shoes and got a standing ovation from the director and crew.
That day was magical, and it showed me the power of never giving up. Even when it takes 23 years!
So when you’re having a hard day, and maybe things aren’t going your way—they’re taking longer than expected—just take a break. Re-group, re-energize yourself. Go for a swim, hike, eat a snack, meditate, break the rhythm. That’s what I do. I swim, eat ice cream, and try again. Okay?
My point is, take a break, come back, and try once more. Whether it’s 23 minutes or 23 years, let go of the lies that are holding you back and try again. You can do it!
