Are Your Videos Throwing a Party With No Guests?

Your videos driving traffic to nowhere? I wasted years sending viewers to an empty “party” until I learned the fix.

Read this article to learn why it's so important to "think backwards..."

Hey Suzanne Glover here and I'd like you to picture this: You’re creating videos to promote your business, right? Probably thinking they’ll build your tribe and boost your brand. But where are you sending those viewers? If you’re like many entrepreneurs, you’re making videos driving traffic “to nowhere” because you don't have a strategic plan to capture, nurture and convert them on auto-pilot. And keeping up manually is just too much work.

It's an online trap and here's how to fix it...

As an online business, your first instinct might be to churn out frontend content, like promotional videos, to get noticed. That’s what I call the “invitations” part of marketing.

But here’s the catch: that’s the last thing you should build. The real magic happens in the backend—your marketing funnel, or what I like to call the “party.”

That's because, in real life, when you're having a party, you prepare the house, buy food, decorate, clean the house and arrange for entertainment before your guests arrive. If you want a good party, the pre-party prep is necessary.

But what usually happens on the internet is backwards. Everyone's out there “mailing invitations,” or in our case, creating content videos that are sending people nowhere. There's no house address, no food, no entertainment, there's no back end.

In marketing online, that "party" is your backend funnel—a system to capture leads, nurture them and monetize your efforts. Without it, you’re sending prospects to an empty house. No address, no food, no entertainment. Just a lot of wasted effort.

I fell into this trap myself. Years ago, I spent four years building a content site, creating videos and articles to drive traffic. It worked—I got hundreds of thousands of visitors. But I didn’t monetize the backend until the third year. When a search algorithm changed in year four, half my traffic vanished overnight and I walked away. If I’d built the backend first—a funnel to capture and convert leads—I could’ve made money all four years, even when the algorithm tanked. Instead, I followed the internet’s backwards advice: create content, then figure out monetization later. Big mistake.

So, here's my advice: You want to think differently. Build the backend first, like setting up the house for the party. Create a monetization system—whether it’s a product, service or offer—then craft strategic videos to drive traffic to that “party” where you’re charging admission. This keeps your business profitable and your life easier, not harder because we’re busy, successful entrepreneurs—we don’t have time to create content for content’s sake.
