Hi, I'm Suzanne Glover and I know how you feel...
In fact, the first time I spoke on camera back in the ’80s as a “professional actress,” I FROZE! Yep… like a deer caught in the headlights.
There I was on a professional commercial set… My very first television commercial… all eyes on me and the camera was HUGE! Well, I thought I’d do fine. I talked myself into believing I’d do fine… the director and crew thought I’d do fine. But the truth of the matter was… I was a major disappointment to everyone… especially the director.
I can still see his face when I froze. The director closed his eyes, dropped his head and, certainly must have been wondering how much money he just lost on the camera, crew, etc., because this actress couldn’t get any words out of her mouth.
So, what did I do? I had one of those profound, “life-changing” moments where I decided I was going to overcome whatever was stopping me. I dug deep inside myself, looked at the director and said, “Don’t worry, I’m ready. Let’s go.”
On the next take, something magical happened. When the director called “Action,” something inside of me “blossomed,” and I changed the course of my camera career. I transformed my insecurity into confidence and literally “blew the crew away” with the next take. I still remember the shocked look on everyone’s faces… how they turned to each other in disbelief and responded with “Wow” and “Whoa, that was amazing.”
For them, they felt my transformation and connected with me. For me, I knew that I had found a valuable secret of how to make an audience respond when speaking on camera.
And that commercial went on to win awards.
But, that wasn’t enough. Over the next three decades, in auditions and shoots, I kept discovering new ways to make that connection happen through the camera.
I discovered how to be real in the moment so my audience could connect with me.
Then, I began teaching others some of my secrets...
- As the owner of my own modeling and acting school, I’ve trained young actors to harness these secrets to win auditions… and many of them did!
